The university was founded by the Archbishop of Valencia, in 2003. It now has grown to an establishment of nearly 15,000 students. At its launch, the university offered degrees in Psychology, Psychopedagogy, Sports Sciences, Social and Cultural Anthropology and Marine Sciences. In 2004 the university incorporated the University School of Nursing “Nuestra Señora de los Desamparados” and, in 2007, the University created a Faculty of Medicine offering degree courses in Medicine, Dentistry, Physiotherapy and Podiatry.
